Deputy President William Ruto has sued activist Boniface Mwangi for defamation over a tweet linking him to the death of businessman Jacob Juma.
In his suit filed on Friday, Ruto through his lawyer Kioko Kilukumi said Mwangi’s claim was “scandalous and injured his reputation”.
Ruto has further demanded public apology and deletion of the said tweet.
Kilukumi said the tweet dented the DP’s character and lowered his estimation among Kenya’s high-thinking people adding that his name has been brought into public scandal and ridicule, making his feelings to be injured.
The DP wrote to Mwangi a week ago demanding an apology. However the #TeamCourage activist dared him to make good his threat and sue him over the tweet that is termed libelous.
In May, the Deputy President threatened to Sue former Lugari legislator Cyrus Jirongo over comments he made during Jacob Juma’s memorial at All Saints’ Cathedral in Nairobi.
“Mr Jirongo made two statements of concern: First, he stated the killers of Meshack Yebei, a prospective defence witness at the just-concluded trial of the Deputy President at the ICC, were the same persons who killed Jacob Juma. Second, he stated, Juma slapped Ruto. That’s is where the problem started and investigations should start there,” Ruto’s legal adviser Korir Sing’oei is quoted by The Star.
