The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) says no official at the secretariat has been dismissed.
A leaked internal memo had indicated on Tuesday that IEBC’s Chair Wafula Chebukati had suspended James Muhati (ICT Director), Paul Mugo (ICT Coordinator) and Boniface Wamae (ICT Officer) for not helping the commission deliver a free, fair and credible August election.
“Quite patently, the ICT Director and two members of staff involved in managing SFTP platform, appear to have fallen short of assisting the Commission successfully discharge this collegial and constitutionally enshrined mandate,” IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati’s leaked internal memo read in part.

However through its Twitter page, IEBC stated that the contents in the internal memo were yet to be approved since the matter was still under deliberation.
“The new leaked doc was internal and still under discussion by the Commission. No final decision has been taken on the issues. Regrettable”, the commission tweeted.
Chebukati had observed through the leaked memo that the decision to suspend key persons within its team was geared at restoring public confidence in the body besides amplifying its integrity in accordance to the constitution.
The opposition alliance (NASA) has been on the forefront demanding the removal of a trail of IEBC officers alleged to have participated in malpractice during the August elections that saw the revoking of presidential results.
NASA leader Raila Odinga has insisted that without changes at the IEBC secretariat, he would not be party to the repeat presidential elections.
