Nyeri Town MP Wambugu Ngunjiri faces new charges for filing petition to oust Chief Justice David Maraga.
Activist Okiya Omtata has gone to court seeking to bar Ngunjiri from prosecuting Maraga over alleged misconduct.
Further, Omtata wants, Ngunjiri compelled to pay Sh10 million as compensation to Maraga after ‘damaging’ his reputation.
Omtata’s petition reads; “Ngunjiri being dissatisfied with the decision of the Supreme Court aforesaid has singled out and staged an unprecedented attack on the person of the CJ and the President of the Supreme Court, who delivered the majority ruling of the court.”
Ngunjiri had bowed to pressure from his Jubilee counterparts who urged him to drop his petition against Maraga and instead focus on the presidential campaigns ahead of the October repeat poll.
In his petition, the Nyeri Town MP accused Maraga of exercising a judicial coup when he annulled the August presidential results due to “irregularities and illegalities”. The MP expressed confidence that he had substantive evidence to support his case.
