Kalonzo Musyoka’s bid for the country’s presidency on NASA ticket is a dream far from near.
A nominated MP from the Opposition coalition now says the 2022 presidential ticket won’t be automatically granted to the Wiper Party leader as there is no Memorandum of understanding (MoU) prescribing so.
Godfrey Osotsi said Wiper, ANC and Ford Kenya will competitively battle out for the NASA 2022 flag bearer.
He stated: “We have an agreement on how 2022 presidency will be handled. We do not have any MoU to hand over power to Musyoka automatically.”
Osotsi argued that the only valid MoU recognized permits any constituent party in NASA except Raila Odinga led ODM to produce a presidential candidate in next general elections.
“The agreement states that the party which produced presidential candidate in 2017 will not be allowed to have its candidate in 2022,” Osotsi said.
The legislator who served as ANC Secretary General during signing of NASA agreement said any party in the coalition apart from ODM is free to have a candidate and through election they will pick the best candidate.
While making the remarks Osotsi was accompanied by Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala and Lurambi MP Titus Khamala with a host of ANC MCAs in Kakamega.
The leaders said ANC is now preparing to have Mudavadi as the presidential candidate in 2022. They dismissed earlier threats by Lugari MP Ayub Savula that the party was contemplating on exiting NASA after “ODM shortchanged” them in selection of committee leaders in the National Assembly.
“We are preparing ourselves to have Mudavadi as the flag bearer in 2022. We warn ANC cartels that we will shame them and their plans,” Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala said.
The Senator said ANC will hold its grass root election early next year to fill all elective positions in preparation for the installation of Mudavadi as NASA leader in 2022.
Speaking at his Kalisi home, the MP said: “With or without the coalition, Wiper will support Kalonzo for the presidency in 2022. We will not care if NASA leader Raila Odinga will support us or not.”
“Kalonzo has asked for this seat for a long time and we are going to support him whether he vies through the coalition or alone,” Mulyungi added.
